Bordercrossing Guerguerat
We arrived at the Moroccan border in the late afternoon, but since it closes at 5 pm, we made the decision to sleep at the border and cross the following day in the early morning. We chose to park our car next to the truck’s parking ground, which is on the opposite side of a fuel station with a restaurant, a small shop, and some bathrooms. The next day, we arrived early at the border crossing and found two waiting lines: one for cars and one for trucks. After entering the border, we promptly received an exit stamp at the small office in the middle of the road. One of the officers checked our papers to receive the signed CIN and then sent us to the scanning area. After the check-up of our papers and the car scanning, another paper was prepared, which also had to be signed in the office. Finally, we were able to exit Morocco without any further delay.
Entering Mauritania
Before entering Mauritania, we followed the offroad tracks through Nomandsland, parked our car outside the borders, and quickly passed the paper check. The police officers checked our car with a sniffing dog for any drugs, and after passing the check-up, we paid 55EUR for German | 50EUR Moroccan passport holders, each valid for 30 days. It is possible to pay with Moroccan dirham.
After that, we had a last check-up at another office. We were cautious as the officer at this office might ask for a bribery. Finally, we received the Passavant for the car (10EUR). As the insurance at the border is more expensive than in Nouadhibou, we decided to take the risk and head towards the city.
